I am calling on every individual living in Harris and contiguous counties, whether a citizen or not; to participate in the 2010 Census count.
We cannot get stuck on labels and descriptions in the questionnaire. Such diversions are designed to distract us from the real goal—to get money back to our community. Besides, we should hold our current Congressional leadership responsible for having allowed such a disruptive label to be included on the form in the first place.
As a resident of the 18th Congressional District have a two-fold responsibility.
First, you must stand up and “be counted.”
Second, you must hold your current Member of Congress accountable for not having earmarked enough of that money; and not generating real legislation to benefit you.
You are concerned that local officials have not done more to change the faces of your neighborhoods, to educate our youth, or to stimulate business and job development. We need Congress to bring us more money to work with.
If you send me to Congress I will make it my priority to make sure that the 18th Congressional District gets its fair share from the Census count.
Respectfully,
Jarvis Johnson

To stimulate business and job developement will change the face of our neighborhoods and support rebuilding of community service and ideals. How will our next Congressman accomplish this goal?

ReplyDeleteThank you for your question.
I have always advocated for mixed income development which will bring back to our neighborhood much of the talent that was lost due to the exodus to suburban flight. By the creation of better mixed income development, marketers will find it more attractive to relocate businesses in the area. Businesses want to go where they know they will make money, and that will be the creation of blue as well as white collar jobs. On a larger scale, I have always advocated for corporations to receive tax benefits and tax breaks for relocation their businesses to the 18th congressional district. The creation of corporate/industrial jobs means the creation or opportunity for better housing development. The theory is that people would like to live where they work.
